Top 5 Deserted and Fascinating Places On Earth Worth Visiting

Craco, Italy

The picturesque medieval town was the scene of filming for several films, including Passion of Christ. Dating from the late sixth century, Craco lies on a cliff 121 meters above a river.
Residents began to leave the village since 1963, due to earthquakes. The relics include a university town, a castle, several churches and palaces.

Pripiat, Cernobil, Ucraaine

After the Chernobyl nuclear accident radioactive particles spread into the air. Winds have carried them over the whole Europe and in Pripiat 30,000 residents were evacuated a few days after the disaster. The city was built in 1970 especially for workers at the Chernobyl nuclear plant. Residents were allowed to leave only with a hand bag. The rest was left behind. In the city, you still can find phones, books, clothing and other personal items of residents, making it look like a museum. 

Kolmanskop, Namibia

After the accidental discovery in 1908 of a diamond, the small African town became a magnet for German miners. Located in the Namib Desert, the city has a German architecture. In Kolmanskop  was made the first African X-rays device and train. In 1954, diamond mines have "dried up" and the city was abandoned.  


Oradour-sur-Glane

Oradour-sur-Glan is a French city, declared a memorial to remember the cruelty of Nazi occupation. The city was attacked and occupied by a division of the German army in 1944. Residents, including women and children were mercilessly shot and burnt alive. Ruins of houses without roofs still standing. In the city there is a museum dedicated to those tragic events.  
  
Bodie, California

Bodie, recognized as a historic place for the United States, seems stunned while since the last inhabitants left half a century ago. Some houses are still full of goods. A former gold mine, the town of Bodie had a population of 10,000 people. As gold businesses fell apart, become a ghost town.
